What can I learn?
Registering with Code Skills gives you access to three
learning programmes:
Introduction
to Using Computers
Introduction to Word Processing
Introduction to Spreadsheets
You may choose to study all of each learning programme
or skip certain sections you feel confident in.
Each
learning programme is divided into learning outcomes
such as Document management and then into brief modules
in which one or more skills are introduced and practised.

Tell
me about the BTEC Award in IT
The BTEC Foundation Award in IT Desktop Skills is
made up of three units which match the three Code
Skills learning programmes. All three units must be
passed to gain the Award.
Each
unit is assessed by an online test undertaken at an
approved testing centre. This will often be a local
college or school. Click on BTEC (link) to see a list
of approved testing centres in your region. You may
be charged a fee to take each test by the testing
centre.
Each test lasts one hour in which you will be asked
to undertake about thirty tasks. You need to achieve
70% marks to pass. You will be told at the end of
the test if you have passed and if there are any skills
you need to develop further. You can take the test
at any time in the year when you feel ready. A pre-test
trial is also available as a practice run.
You will be sent a certificate for each unit passed
and your Award once all three units are passed.
The BTEC Foundation Award in IT Desktop Skills is
an excellent basis upon which to go on to Intermediate
level courses such as the European Computer Driving
Licence (ECDL).
